What Teams Trust
What people trust AI to do, and what they check: trust in AI output, checking, error rates, what people hand over, policy breaches, company data and AI-related breaches.

How much do workers trust the output of AI tools at work?
A quarter to a half of workers trust AI output at work, depending on how strictly trust is defined: 24 to 33 percent clearly trust its quality or accuracy, and 53 percent of employees across 47 countries are willing to trust AI for work. Very few trust it with important decisions: 7 percent of developers in 2026.
- F-2241–44%
How often do people check AI output before using it?
About four in ten AI users regularly use AI output without checking it, by their own account: 44 percent of AI-using employees across 47 countries do not verify its accuracy most of the time, and knowledge workers report no critical thinking on 41 percent of their AI-assisted tasks. 56 percent of AI-using employees say AI has caused a mistake in their work at least once.
- F-2317–45%
How often is AI output wrong on real work tasks?
In independent tests on realistic professional questions, 17 to 45 percent of AI answers contained a hallucination or significant error (2024 to 2025). Rates fall sharply when the AI only summarizes a document it is given, and rise sharply for whole projects, and they change with every model release.
- F-242–12%
Which work tasks do people want AI to do on its own, and which do they want to keep?
Very few want AI working fully on its own: about 2 percent, in two independent studies. People welcome AI help on many tasks, mostly repetitive ones, and most prefer an equal partnership with AI, while keeping decisions about people, communication and creative control.
- F-2530–44%
How many workers use AI in ways that break company policy?
About three to four in ten workers have used AI in ways that break company policy: 44 percent of AI-using employees say so themselves, and IT leaders estimate about 30 percent. Missing rules are a big part of it: 56 percent have used AI without knowing whether it was allowed, and only 38 to 44 percent of organizations have a formal AI policy.
- F-2642–48%
How often do employees put company data into public AI tools?
A little under half of workers say they have put company information into public AI tools: 48 percent of AI-using employees, and 42 percent of privacy and security professionals themselves. Monitoring software confirms it happens routinely, and a third to a half of AI use at work runs through personal accounts.
- F-2721–29%
How many organizations have had a security incident or data breach involving AI?
About one in five to three in ten organizations report a breach of, or attack on, their own AI systems in the past year: 21 percent of breached organizations in IBM's 2026 study and 29 percent in Gartner's 2025 survey. Employees' unapproved AI was involved in 43 percent of the breaches IBM studied, up from 20 percent.
