What share of workers use generative AI at work?
About 40 to 50 percent of US workers now use generative AI for their job, depending on how the question is asked. Daily use is much smaller: about 14 to 15 percent of all workers, or a quarter to a third of the people who use it.
- F-1540–52%
What do people use AI for at work?
Mostly for writing and finding information: about half of AI-using workers use it for writing or editing, and about half for research or search. Coding is a minority use outside tech, named by 13 to 27 percent of AI users in surveys.
- F-1678–85%
Which occupations and industries use AI the most?
Tech workers, by a wide margin: about 8 in 10 US workers in computer jobs or the tech industry use AI for work, against about 2 in 10 in hands-on service jobs. The same order shows up in the EU, among EU firms and in AI companies' usage logs.

Who uses AI at work more, by age, education and income?
College graduates use AI at work 12 to 24 percentage points more than workers without a degree, and workers 50 and older trail younger colleagues by 4 to 20 points in the US. The income gap is the widest: across 47 countries, 83 percent of high-income employees use AI at work against 34 percent of low-income employees.
- F-185–16 pts
Is there a gender gap in AI use at work, and how large is it?
Most studies find men use generative AI more than women, by about 5 to 16 percentage points, which makes men about 16 to 22 percent more likely to use it. The gap shrinks by a quarter to a third among people in the same job, and stays open.
- F-1950–78%
How many workers use AI tools their employer did not provide, and how many hide it?
Half to three quarters of workers who use AI use at least some tools their employer did not provide, and most of them also use approved tools. About half are reluctant to tell their manager or have avoided revealing their AI use.
- F-2042–49%
How many employers provide AI tools, guidance or training to staff?
About half of workers say their employer has brought in AI tools, 42 to 49 percent in 2024 to 2026, but only 25 to 40 percent report a clear AI plan or policy. Counted by firms instead of workers, adoption is lower: 20 percent of EU firms and 24 percent of US businesses use AI, because most firms are small.
